August/ September
The Olympic Games are over! Unfortunately things did not go according to plan. Getting sick was NOT on the agenda. Nothing I can say will change things, but overall I was at my 3rd Olympics;) Meeting up with old friends, making new friends and being able to share this wonderful experience with them all, will be imprinted in my mind forever.
My next journey begin: I start college again at the University of Georgia, where I plan to graduate in May 2009.
Thank you all out there, who have supported me during the biuld up to the Games. Your support has given me the strength and courage to look ahead. THANK YOU!
Keep checking, the photo gallery of the Olympic Games will be posted soon.... July/ August 2008 30 days until the Olympics. 10th of July my countdown begins. Trainingcamps in Berlin and Japan, and finally BEJING!!!! Keep your fingers and toes crossed... April/ May 2008
BREAKING NEWS: qualified for Beijing!!! Grabbed two tickets (100m & 200m Breaststroke). Swam personal best times, including breaking both German and European records in the 100m Breaststroke.
Only a few weeks to go, and off again to compete at the Mare Nostrum Tour (Monaco, Barcelona and Canet). It will be my last chance to taste the international flavour before China
Will keep you posted… December/ January 2008 2007 ended off with a BANG! My Short Course season in Europe was a great success. At the Berlin World Cup I bagged gold and a silver medal. The 100m Breaststroke time was one of my best times ever, just missing my own National record! The success continued at the German Short Course Champs, claiming two gold’s, a silver and bronze. With these results, I was selected to represent Germany at the European Short Course Champs in Debrecen. Due to unexpected back problems, forcing me to withdraw from one of my main events; I still managed a bronze medal in the 50m Breaststroke. After two months of heavy racing, I returned back home in time to spend Christmas with family and friends. Only 4 months to our German Olympic trials…….. Till the next time November 2007
I just competed at the first leg of the World Cup series, held in Durban, South Africa. It was great swimming on home turf. Considering the fact that this meet was during heavy training, taking the podium three times was an achievement! It was a weekend filled with excitement
For the month of November, I am jetting off to Germany. My schedule is going to be hectic. Four meets in a row, ending off with the German Short Course Champs (22nd-25th), which will be held in Essen.
Can’t wait to visit Germany again…
auf Wiedersehen July
Just returned back from the Mare Nostrum tour (Canet and Barcelona). It was a great experience, both on a competitive and social level. The last time I was able to compete at these meets was back in 2001. Third stop was Zagreb, a first for me. Beautiful city and yummy food; managed to collect two bronze medals!!!
Busy preparing for the next meet, will be held from 2nd -5th of August in Paris. In between been kept busy by helping kids with stroke correction. It’s a great accomplishment for one to see kids striving for perfection.
Until the next time…
Feb-April
It’s been a while since I last updated this page. Well, since then I have been on the road, not only with the National team, but also with my Club team Bayer Wuppertal.
During the month of February, I was on a 3 week training camp with the German National team in Las Palmas. It was a great trip, as I was able to train outside and more importantly I was surrounded by all my team mates. It was my first time to the Canary Islands, hopefully not my last! The island was magic, especially swimming in the warm ocean, and relaxing in the sun.
In the beginning of March I celebrated my birthday with a bash at a popular Mexican restaurant here in Cape Town. The best part of the meal was the amazing Lindt ball birthday cake...
I have Recently returned from Berlin, where I swam the German Nationals. It was a difficult one, although my times were not bad, seeing I had not raced since last year December. I am Planning on swimming meets during the June/ July months in Europe.
Something new, I have joined Muay Thai classes, personal trainer Quinton Chong. It’s awesome!!! Getting stronger by the day, so watch out for me… 2007
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE!!! This month I will be in full training, without having to jet off to other parts of the world. I will also be hosting a private Breaststroke clinic at the Deutsche Schule Kapstadt in January. It will be a great honour for me as I Matriculated in 2001 at the Deutsche Schule Kapstadt.
Bye for now...
2006 December
Ended the year by jetting off to the island of La Reunion, where I took part in the 18th Swimming International Meeting of the Indian Ocean. It was a successful meet, and also managed to spend some quality time with friends from France, Ukraine, Austria and most importantly my great friend Antjie Buschschulte. Had an amazing time, a helicopter ride around the island, relaxing on the beaches, visiting the many waterfalls and enjoying the traditional foods of La Reunion. New years eve was a memorable time for me, as I spent the night with special friends.
November
I arrived back in SA at the end of October. The month I Spent with the National Team in Sierra, Nevada was amazing especially from a technical and medical aspect. During this period it was fun bonding with the team and spending quality time with them.
I will be off on the 9th for Germany to challenge my fellow German teammates for a spot at the next World Champs in Melbourne.
At these trials, which will be held between the 23rd and the 26th of November in Hannover, I will have the opportunity to qualify to represent Germany in the beginning of December at the European Short Course in Helsinki.
Till next time, Sarah
September
Back home in South Africa. Have decided to put my studies on hold until after the 2008 Olympic Games. It was a difficult decision to make, especially having to leave the University of Georgia, my coach Jack Bauerle and co., and not to forget all my great friends. I will definitely return.....
At the end of September I join my national team on a 30 day altitude trainingcamp in Sierra Nervada.Looking forward to seeing everyone again;)
Till the next time, Sarah
